this course was really helpful for me!! and now i can easily distinguish all SD and EM. I'd like all of them!  Especially i like litotes, pun, epithet, synecdoche, hyperbole, simile, antithesis, metaphor, suspense and personification. When i read something i can find them without any difficulties. it was my favourite subject in this term. I am sure that I will never forget them, even after 50 years. Thank for your interesting and unforgettable classes)))) Wish you all the best!!!)))

week 10

Repetition is the simple repeating of a word, within a sentence or a poetical line, with no particular placement of the words, in order to provide emphasis. This is such a common literary device that it is almost never even noted as a figure of speech. It also has connotations to listing for effect.

litotes - From Greek litos, "simple, single," it refers to an ironical understatement (e.g. no small amount) or two negatives.

used to make a positive

Antithesis is the placing of a sentence or one of its parts against another to which it is opposed to form abalanced contrast of ideas, as in “Give me liberty or give me death.”

week 5-6))))

The theme of this week was so interesting for me. I liked very much. All of them focus on jokes, anecdotes to make funny moments of speech. I want to speak about pun and irony The pun is formed within the context by one simple word that sounds like a different word or has another meaning. These are called homophonic or homographic puns. Homophonic puns are created by substituting one word for a similar-sounding word. Homographic puns are created in one of two ways: either by using a word that has two different meanings, or by substituting a word with the exact same spelling as the word for which it was substituted. Irony the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning. @http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/irony @http://examples.yourdictionary.com/exampl…

We talked about Metaphor, Simile ,Personification, Metonymy. And now i can distinguish them from each other. I found a simple definitions from internet and want to share with you. 1) A SIMILE is a phrase that describes something in comparison to the characteristics of something else, using the words as or like. Examples: Her hands were as cold as ice. His beard was like sandpaper. 2) A METAPHOR directly compares two things, which may be quite different, because one has a characteristic that is similar to the other. Examples: All the world is a stage. The inside of the car was a furnace. His memory of the event was foggy. 3) Personification is when you assign the qualities of a person to something that isn't human or, in some cases, to something that isn't even alive. Examples: The stars d…
