whom you hold dear, with tables ladened with delicious foods and drinks.

I know I've been remiss in posting my kitchen adventures these past few weeks. Lots of things have kept me busy...and out of the kitchen. I hope to get back into the swing of things in the new year...but until then, I have but a plate of caramel cup cookies to offer you and Santa.

These cookies are baked in two-bite or mini muffin tins and the end result is a cookie-encased caramel cup, kissed with whisky (What? Given all the busy-ness of the season, a little extra, hidden Christmas cheer is never a bad thing).

I love that it allows me to cut down on the packaging, as I strive to bring back and reuse the same paper bags until they give out in exhaustion. I love that I pay less for the exact same products or ingredients, and I love that it gives me an opportunity to purchase sample-size amounts of new foods without committing to a whole package IPS. This is how I recently got ahold of some shoyu roasted cashews from Jean Hervé — an all-around fantastic brand for nut butters — that proved all kinds of good, crunchy and toasty and salty but not overly so. I found myself reaching for small handfuls that soon turned into bigger ones while preparing dinner, and sprinkling them over my lunch salads as well, and soon enough my sample was gone. Monica used some beautiful courgettes and tomatoes to create a no-carb version of one of her favourite pasta dishes: spaghetti alla puttanesca nautilus mini. A Riverford veg box is always a cheerful sight on a rainy day, and this one in particular was especially uplifting. The weather may have been grim but the veg box was a pleasant reminder that summer hasn’t totally left the building. This morning, Dwight woke me up, whispering in my ear “8”. I am like, “what?!!”, with my half sleepy voice. He was unusually happy at 5 o’clock in the morning with a cute smile on his face. Come to find out, he was happy because we only have 8 days left before we go on vacation company setup. Knowing how much he needs to get away, I am happier for him than myself. This lively salad features peppery nasturtium leaves and flowers, along with sweet strawberries and a lemon-poppy seed dressing. Nasturtium leaves are seldom sold at grocery stores but they may be found at some farmers' markets or foraged along slopes and canyons around LA (or perhaps your own garden).
