persimmon salad

I'm a huge fan of lentil salads (like this Vegetarian Lentil Taco Salad or this Lentil and Barley Greek-Style Salad), but I have to admit combining lentils, fruit, and avocados into this Fruity Lentil Salad with Persimmon, Apple, and Avocado was thinking outside the box, even for a lentil-lover like myself. But please believe me when I say that this slighty-sweet salad with lentils and fruit was just delicious! I learned to really like persimmons when a blogging friend sent me some Fuyu Persimmons in the mail a few years ago. Since then I've bought a few persimmons every fall when they start showing up in the stores in Utah. It's persimmon season right now and you need a few persimmons in your life, don't you? (And if the idea of persimmons + lentils is just too far outside the box, check…

the freezer upon finishing

To prepare the ice cream base, simply drop all of the ingredients, except for the two extracts, into your blender or food processor. A high-speed blender is your best bet for the smoothest texture, but with enough patience and a bit of straining, any model can make do. Blend on high for 5 – 6 minutes, pausing to scrape down the sides of the canister if necessary, until the mixture is thoroughly pureed, without a single fragment of pistachio to be found. Pour the smooth mixture into a medium saucepan and set on the stove over moderate heat. Whisking frequently, scraping the sides and bottom of the pan to prevent anything from sticking and scorching, bring the liquid up to a gentle boil. Once bubbles begin to burst on the surface with increasing regularity, turn off the heat. Stir in the va…

these glorious green gems

July? Already? Each new month always seem to sneak up out of no where, unannounced and premature, startling me out of my never-ending daydream and back into the present moment. Somehow, the arrival of July doesn’t feel quite so jarring this time around, and yet there’s considerable dissonance between the calendar date and the weather at hand. Oh, it’s been gloriously sunny, aside from the average fog-smothered mornings, but never has a mid-summer month run in with such a cool breeze on its tail. San Francisco summers are unlike any other; I came prepared with plenty of layers, but I still doubted that I would need my autumnal leatherette jacket this late into the year. Thank goodness I suspended that disbelief at least long enough to pack it, since it’s become a constant companion on my b…

American Flag Donuts

I can’t make pudding pops without Ryan saying “puddin’ POPS!” like Bill Cosby. As Bill says – It’s frozen pudding on a stick scholar leaders! He’s right, it is frozen pudding on a stick – but these very berry coconut chocolate pudding pops are so much more. I can’t just make plain chocolate pudding pops. I’ve already put steamed carrots in popsicles and peanut butter cups in donuts – so of course I have to put something in these chocolate pudding pops Shelves Display. I loaded these pudding pops with deliciousness. Strawberries and blueberries and my current favorite ingredient to bake with – coconut Hong Kong company formation! So we have a little red, white, and blue going on! These pudding pops would be a hit at any 4th of July picnic, along with these American Flag Donuts. So if you i…

my favorite scenes

Have you ever envisioned what it would be like to live during a different time in history? As a kid I can remember being crazy about Little House on the Prairie. I really wanted to be that Laura Ingalls. At that point, food didn't play a part in my fascination, but the rustic kitchen, farm life and fishing by the creek did. Despite the cold nights and TV drama, it looked like so much fun! Given that little piece of my past and my love of travel you'd think I would have been a shoo-in for Downton Abbey. I was such a late blooming fan. I didn't see the draw at all for the first two seasons. Then I watched my first episode and it all went down hill. Hooked, binged watched and I'm anxiously awaiting what will happen next like everyone else. I bet you can guess my favorite scenes. Yep, the kit…

a teaspoon of Natvia

I can not believe that is already my second Mother Day this week end! My lovely baby Emma will be 14 months within 4 days. Time is flying. I know my husband get me a surprise for Mother Day but for now (it is Saturday morning when I am writing now) I want to make sure I am having an healthy breakfast tomorrow morning. I want to be full of energy and punch to enjoy this day with my petite family that I love so much stainless steel travel mug. So this is how I did this breakfast bowl. I follow the healthy rules I read in my Diabetes Diet book. I used wholegrain, seed, low carbs and fibre ingredient to keep my stomach full and my energy (Blood sugar level) steady Amethyst earrings. I mixed all bran, shredded coconut, oat, dried apricot, goji berries, almonds, sliced fresh banana and frozen b…

Blueberry Sauce

Sunday is Mother’s Day, and I’m celebrating (or rather, cooking for Momma Bear) early just to make sure you’ve got this recipe in time. I’ve heard that moms love breakfast in bed eye cream. Well, everyone loves breakfast in bed, don’t they? There’s nothing like showing someone how much you care by starting their day with a big, beautiful stack of ‘cakes. Especially if those ‘cakes happen to be particularly light from ricotta, and vibrantly flavored from lemon juice and fresh blueberry sauce. Oh, and if they’re studded with poppy seeds? We’re talking pure breakfast bliss bookcases. Now, I’ve never been one for fruity breakfasts. I prefer my first meal to be savory, and if it has to be sweet, you can be sure I’m going the chocolate route. However, with all the fresh fruit that has finally h…

late-morning

I frequently find myself looking at the pastry cases in coffee shops, wishing for just a bite of something along with my cup of coffee. Even though I have started making coffee at home, there is something nice about taking a break from my desk and walking outside to get a cup of java late-morning. The danishes and muffins never look that great, and frankly, aren’t worth the $3 for a sugar high. I baked up these biscotti to have as treats through the week with my coffee, and have been loving the filling combination of nuts and fruit studding each bite Alexander Hera Wedding. These little biscotti fit the bill for a snack- they are about 1/4 of the size of their normal counterparts, which means I can dip a couple into my coffee and feel like I had a significant snack without ruining my brea…

cheese, sour cream

It’s hard out there for a dairy free girl. Ya know what I mean? Sometimes it seems like every recipe calls for milk, cheese, sour cream, or cream of something. That’s why it’s so important to have some great alternatives in your dairy-free arsenal Wine. I came up with this particular recipe to be the perfect substitute for condensed cream of mushroom soup. It’s thick and creamy and loaded with flavor. My family even prefers it to the original. It’s hard out there for a dairy free girl. Ya know what I mean? Baci di Dama Cookies

Baci di Dama Cookies Neither one of us is quite sure how we connected, but so be it. But somehow I kind of remembered Terresa Murphy from San Francisco. However she’s been living in Paris since the mid-80s, so my memory is either better than I thought, or my mind is playing tricks on me. (Which is a whole nother road that I’d prefer not walk down right now.) Terresa leads market tours and teaches cooking classes in Paris which focus on vegetarian cuisine and sourcing fresh, local, organic ingredients, and reaches out to people via her website, La Cucina di Terresa. She takes folks to the markets and highlights the farmers and stands at the market, manned by the producteurs themselves and offers tastings of French natural wines. In fact, I often run into her at the market because we have s…
