Kellogg alum June 4, 2015
Kellogg reflection:
Did I reach the goal? Did you accomplish what you planned to at B school?
I didn't make heart close friends; I didn't get a job right afterwards;
I learned how to make decisions analytically, I learned how to network , write emails (I had no idea before!); I learned about startup and VC world a lot. I gained an attitude of finishing projects even if it has to be done at 5am. I did complete triathlon!
I didn't write celebrity blog about my time at B-school. I didn't come to compete terms of what i what to do, and how I get there. I didn't finish my career plan, and have no clear way of looking what I will do.
I was not adequately prepared for the B-school experience. I didn't know about the trade-off between academics and friendship.
Am I satisfied with the results?
I gained what I didn't expect to gain, and didn't gain what I expected. I expected a privilege of being selected. A celebratory life style. A bunch of thoughtful, goal-committed, ambitious friends, who really care who you are.
Instead I got hard work; not engaged, not thoughtful, not ambitious fun-loving, adventurous friends; no leadership exercise.
What I would've done differently:
A board of directors (friends) for myself.
Focus on one area early on
Breakthroughs:
1. INjoo and my leadership, coaching, and my ability to bring so many mentors to myself and team.
2. Research in marketing - hard tool, and real experience of presenting to American CEO.
3. PEVC conference - so liked the experience
Breakdowns:
1. Kwest trip - don't like superficial people
2. Not winning NUVC - such a disappointment
3. Fight at Impact investing class - he was stubborn, I took it too personally
What can be learned that is useful:
1. Have a community for people around you. If you don't like them, work on it make it right. Start liking them, or find win those you like
2. Can't learn from listening for 1.5 hours and not asking questions
3. Plan a lot ahead
4. Remember to love your friends and care about them
