Раньше английский был богаче, звучал серьезнее, в нём было больше мистики, больше грубых ,почти как в русском рычащих "Р".

К примеру, за место слова "You" использовалось 4 разных слова.

thou - Единст., Субъект (Thou art here. = You are here.)
thee - Единст., Объект (He gave it to thee.)
ye - Множ., Субъект (Ye must gather ere the fire)
you - Множ., Объект ( I beg you for mercy)

Thy - Your ( Thy beauty is charming)
Thine - Yours (My heart ist thine my Lord)

Также интересно заметить что раньше глаголы имели окончания в зависимости от лица. 
Dost thou desire tea, Elaine? - Do you desire tea, Elaine?
Thou knowst what ist in the heart of mine. - You know what is in my heart.
