Books that read America

Last week, I wished at least for one reader but I got three. Lol. Thanks for reading me.

I noticed that on Yvision, people like posts about books. That make a sense cuz bloggers usually a book lovers. At least, how I see them. I am a book lover as well.

Today, I wanna share with u, guys, the list that my American friends recommended me to read. Not just one friend but about 10 of them. Many times, their suggestions overlapped. So, I made a conclusion that it’s what America read now. Some of them are popular classic books, but some are pretty new for me. Here is the list that I have read so far:

My ranking(opinion) from the best to the worst:

  1. The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger.
  2. Animal Farm by George Orwell.
  3. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee [I made a conclusion that this book along with “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald are THE most favorite books of American people]
  4. Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck [Never heard about that one before but it’s popular book in the US]
  5. 1984 by George Orwell.
  6. I Am Malala by Christina Lamb
  7. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain
  8. Brave New World by Aldous Huxley.
  9. The Giver by Lois Lowry [Never heard about it]
  10. The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway
  11. Lord of the Flies by William Golding [Never heard about it as well]

Here are also the books from recommended American list but seems like I am not gonna read them:

  1. Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury [I had enough of utopia. Not exiting at all]
  2. A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking [that one seems too complicated]
  3. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen [I saw the movie and it seems too romantic for me]
  4. A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens [I would love to read it but the language is too difficult. I started read it, but then I gave up after first chapter. Probably I will read it in Russian language]
  5. Why Nations Fail by Daron Acemoglu and James A. Robinson [It’s a great book. I just need some time and patience]

Desert. Here the books that I weren’t recommended, but I read it by myself.

  1. The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah [I loved her writing and decided to read another book]
  2. Fly Away by Kristin Hannah

I think, I will take a risk and join my American friends and recommend YOU all that great books including my last two. All books that I’ve read from that list, except probably Tom Sawyer are easy to read in English. So, pick whatever you like and share your opinion with me on comments.

Sincerely yours,

Alik
