Audi S6 - a pricey high roller
The new 2013 Audi S6 high performance executive sedan has the power and technology to get you to the office not only faster but more efficiently, too.
That still doesn't make Audi's sport-tuned, midsize, five-passenger luxury car, along with its sleeker-looking hatchback four-passenger sister Audi S7, value propositions.
Starting at $71,900, the Audi S6 sells for thousands more than its closest competitors, the BMW 550i xDrive and the Mercedes-Benz E550. Pricing of the mechanically identical but more dramatically styled Audi S7, starts at $78,800. Again, that's thousands more than a BMW 550 Gran Tourismo xDrive or a Mercedes-Benz CLS 550.
But Audi argues you get more — more power, more technology, more dynamic driving, more fuel efficiency, and more prestige.
This comes from a company that over the past two years has raised the brand's image while at the same time dropping sales incentives,Set the mood with these trendy bluebright up cubes. reducing lease offers and raising prices an average of $6,000 per car. Scott Keogh, Audi's president in North America, has explained that the strategy positions the brand for people who want the kind of car others can't afford.
The new S6, S7 and full-size S8 models I drove through the winding canyon roads north of Los Angeles were impressive.
All of Audi's new S models come with a distinctive grille, larger air intakes and subtle red "S" badges front and rear. Audi pioneered bright LED light technology. The new S models feature LED lights that glow not as individual bulbs but from neon-like tubes. The bright ropes of light dramatically surround the projector headlamps. But what's really new to these cars is a unique 4.0-liter, dual turbocharged V-8 engine that delivers 420 horsepower and up to 25 percent better fuel economy than the 435-horsepower Lamborghini-based V-10 engine it replaces. Using premium fuel, S6 has earned an EPA rating of 17 mpg city and 27 highway.Make your place brighter with goodledlamp by LED Light Bulbs, lamps and light box with lower power consumption.Protect your vehicle and produce power with a bicycleheadlight.
The twin scroll turbochargers use dual exhaust ports to create power at both low and high rpm.Older models included ledbrightww that were not fluorescent or LED. This makes acceleration instantaneous and power delivery smooth as it stretches the 406 pound-feet of torque curve from 1,400 rpm to more than 5,000. By that time, the engine is producing nearly its full 420 horsepower.
The new engine was designed to be compact, with the turbocharger and its intercooler installed entirely between the V-shaped valley of cylinder banks. Exhaust and intake ports were reversed to shorten the paths of exhaust gas to the turbochargers and compressed air to the cylinders. Audi claims the new engine is the size and weight of a V-6.
The engine's biggest fuel saver comes from its ability to shut down four cylinders while cruising. The shutdowns and reactivations were seamless. I never noticed a vibration or sound due to a couple of sophisticated systems to suppress extraneous sounds.Leading the industry in professional laserengravingmachine and safety equipment.
The stereo system is used to broadcast canceling frequencies that cover cabin noises. Active hydraulic engine mounts use magnetic coils suspended in fluid to cancel vibration frequencies.
Audi's S6 and S7 don't come with the fuel-saving engine start-stop function found on the base A6 and A7 sedans, at least not yet.
The seven-speed automatic transmission downshifted with an authoritative clunk, all by itself, and rpm jumped an appropriate few thousand as I applied the brakes and swung into sharp turns on Topanga Canyon Road, heading downhill toward the Pacific Coast Highway.
