Kazakhstan launches project to recycle used mobile phones and PCs

«KAZINFORM»
Kazakhstan has begun realization of a joint project of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the UN Development Programme and “Samsung Electronics”, on recycling mobile phones, this has been announced at a briefing in Central Communications Service by the Minister of Environment and Water Resources Nurlan Kapparov. The project is called “e-waste management”.
According to his words, used electronic equipment in Kazakhstan is placed on landfills and waste dumps near settlements. Heavy metals (lead, mercury, antimony, cadmium, hexavalent chromium mixture, etc.) contained in the waste are harmful to the environment and human health.
“The project plans to install eco-boxes for the collection of cell phones in places of electronic equipment sale, as well as to carry out information campaigns to raise population’s awareness about the dangers of electronic waste and ways of its disposal”, concluded the Minister of Environment and Water Resources.
