“This year Kazakhstan and China plan to complete the project to assess flows of transboundary Rivers Ili and Irtysh. An agreement on the joint use and protection of these rivers is expected to be signed by 2016,” Vice Minister of Environment and Water Resources of Kazakhstan Yerlan Nysanbayev announced during the media briefing at the central Communications Service under the President of Kazakhstan on Sunday, April 19, 2014.
The Vice Minister noted the positive dynamics of development cooperation on transboundary rivers with China.
“This is a good indicator of joint cooperation in the rational and equitable use of transboundary rivers,” Mr. Nysanbayev said.
However, the Vice Minister of Environment and Water resources stressed that Kazakhstan get about 40% of the total volume of water through transboundary rivers
