Women in management
Thinking about best top managers of the world, the majority of people
don't imagine famous women. Honestly, I don't even know famous
women in management. But one of the good examples is «Devil wears
PRADA».
In this film Maryl Streep plays Miranda Priestly, the despotic and
overbearing editor of RUNWAY magazine. She is not in good
relationship with another workers. She is very strict to her employees, so
nobody contradict to her and try to do their's best, because they don't
want to lose their's job. There are some stereotypes about women in
management, as they are more emocional, not strong enough, but she
broke them. I think she is a very good top manager with an authoritarian
style of management, but we need to take into account two important
things. First is about that the majority of her employees were women,
some of them were much younger than she. So I can't definitely say that
she would be as good, working with men. Second important thing is that
there were some problems in her family. Her husband wanted to divorce,
she couldn't pay a lot of attention for her children. So, the higher position
you have, the higher responsibilities you get, the less time for your
private life you have. In my opinion, this film is about priorities. Miranda
Priestly has opted for a career. Also, sphere of work is very important.
Fashion is not politics or economics.
We don't have to forget our nature. Men subconsciously try to earn
money and make his family's life conditions much better than they are.
They can spend a lot of time working, but it's not the same situation with
women because of her husband, children, domesticity and so on. I'm not
trying to say that woman can not be a good manager, but it's very hard to
find a balance between work and family.
