Two foreign languages: the key to understanding the modern world
In the age of globalization and high technology, when the world is changing every second and information is constantly updated, we need to keep up with the world and quickly adapt to the conditions. English is a key factor in providing access to a wide range of information.
Knowledge of English provides some advantages in terms of communication . International language removes the language barriers . Common language gives opportunities to find new friends , become familiar with other cultures and develop a worldview. Lastly , International language unites the nations. “The limits of my language mean the limits of my world”(Ludwig,1922,Tractatus) gives an idea that destruction of borders in communication destroys limits of our world.
Education is one of the most important reasons of using International language . Firstly, the globe famous universities and institutions of higher education are located in the English-speaking countries. For example : Oxford , Cambridge, Abertay, Harvard, Glasgow and others. Secondly, the world’s leading conferences and meetings like Nobel Prize, Oscars, meetings of UNESCO , political meetings are held in English. In the same way all international competitions and Olympics are also in English. And eventually most of the important books of science , technology, economy and business science are written in English. Unfortunately , most of them are not translated .
In Modern Kazakhstan, pedagogical specialties are more in demand than ever, and among them is the specialty "Two foreign languages" at the faculty of Philology and World languages of the University of KazNU. After finishing this specialty, I know firsthand about the program and teaching methods of the University. This profession is relevant for a number of reasons and the key factor can be called the trilingual policy of our country. Of course, this implies in-depth study and knowledge of all three languages, so the knowledge of English is more important than ever. Fluency in a foreign language as well as high-quality knowledge of the subject provide huge opportunities for employment in the future. Moreover, foreign language teachers have always been in demand and remain so to this day. During the period of my study at the University we have not only learned all the features of our specialty but also passed practice in the best schools of the country including the Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools and the Republican Physics and Mathematics school. Students of these schools demonstrated not only good knowledge of English but also showed how much it is now necessary to know foreign languages for development and obtaining information.
Unfortunately, in our country, many young people do not want to be teachers at all and avoid it in every possible way. However, I would like to note that nowadays it is much easier for teachers to work because there are many programs for professional development and support of young professionals. It should also be added that choosing the exact specialty related to education and upbringing chances in the future to find a decent and prestigious job is much more.Therefore pedagogical specialties are not a relic of the past but quite the contrary they are a road to the future through the education of the country's intellectual potential and its enrichment.
