The waste management sphere needs to be modernized
The Scientific Research and Education Center "Green Academy" in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan on July 23-24 conducted the workshop-training on the theme "Improvement of waste management system" for Deputy Heads of the territorial departments of Ecology - chief state environmental inspectors of the territorial environment departments of the Committee for environmental regulation and control. In the organization of the workshop actively participated the Department for waste management of the MEWR RK.
The aim of the workshop is strengthening the capacity in the field of waste management and evaluation of environmental impacts.
The workshop was opened by Acting Director of the Department for waste management of the MEWR RK Aydar Makhambet and Director of the SREC “Green Academy”, Member of the Council on Green Economy under the President of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Economics, Professor Bakhyt Yessekina.
The workshop focused the issues on implementing the Concept for the transition of the Republic of Kazakhstan to “green” economy and creating the effective solid household waste management system aimed primarily to minimize the negative impact on the environment and improving the quality and conditions of life of country’s citizens. As it is known, the Concept for the transition of the Republic of Kazakhstan to “green” economy highlights the need of improving the waste management sector.
Trainees also discussed the Program of solid waste management modernization for 2014-2050 years, issues of public-private partnerships in waste management, disposal of unclaimed hazardous waste, treatment of persistent organic pollutants, familiarized with Kazakhstan’s obligations under the international conventions and projects in the field of management waste.

Head of the Department for urban planning ecology of the SRDI "Astanagenplan" Asiya Batyrgozhina and Independent expert Muslima Oralbayeva;
UNDP Project Manager Amina Beybitova.
At the end of the workshop was organized the roundtable on the theme «Improving the legislation in the field of waste management in the Republic of Kazakhstan» during which took place Deputy Director of the Department Bizara Dosmakova and also UNDP specialists and experts. Under the roundtable were discussed issues on current legal framework in the waste management sector and present proposals for improving cooperation with RPE on waste management in industrial plants, with local authorities as well as the possibility of creating of Scientific Research Institute for Integrated waste management under the Ministry.
On the results of the workshop and testing 17 participants were awarded with certificates.
