The Summer Fridays

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain obtainable here; for new stories, head onto Vox. com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for the Goods by Vox. You may see what we’re up to by joining here.

The Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask has been probably the most hyped and popular skin care launches belonging to the season. The $48 leave-on mask/moisturizer hybrid became the best-selling scrub your pores clean product at Sephora less in comparison with two weeks after launching in March, and it has subsequently sold in existence three more times. While some of its attraction can surely be attributed to that experts claim Summer Fridays’ founders, Marianna Hewitt in addition to Lauren Gores, are lifestyle bloggers and influencers having a huge social media network (Kim Kardashian sometimes shared it on her app), I’m convinced the fact that metal tube is a huge component of the appeal.

The founders of Summer Fridays savvily decided on a cornflower blue tube, ensuring it would immediately stand out within a sea of millennial pink elegance packaging. But the real pro decision here? They put it in an aluminum tube, a good Instagram shelfie-savvy move if now there ever was one.

“The aluminum really stands out, ” states Hewitt. “We wanted it to become this beautiful piece on your current beauty counter. We loved that whether or not it was used or if ıt had been brand new, it still looked really good. With a lot of plastic tubes, when they start to get empty, they just look a little bit deflated. We wanted it to be photogenic. ”

It’s no secret that packaging is vital to consumers. Humans are hardwired to get drawn to things we come across attractive, so no matter how good the goop could possibly be inside, the outside is often what makes us pick it up at first. A commonly shared statistic while in the marketing world is that at the very least one-third of consumer choices are influenced by packaging.

It’s hard to pinpoint what exactly makes an aluminum tube a lot more aesthetically pleasing than its uglier plastic counterparts or other designs of packaging, but I’m going to attempt because it’s a trend in beauty packaging at this time.
