158th BIE General Assembly was held 25 November 2015 in Paris; it was attended by the Kazakhstani delegation headed by Commissioner Rapil Zhoshybayev and Chairman of the Board of JSC “NC “Astana EXPO-2017” A.Yessimov.
Reports on preparations for EXPO-2017 were heard at the meeting. In his speech, Chairman of the Board of JSC “NC “Astana EXPO-2017” Akhmetzhan Yessimov spoke about the status of work on construction of the Exhibition complex, content of the Exhibition, attracting international participants and sponsors, and promotion of the Exhibition.
Chairman of the Board said that to date 54 countries and 11 international organizations have confirmed their participation, 29 Commissioners of international pavilion sections have been appointed. SeeAgreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and BIE has been signed.
The exhibition for its whole period (3 months) will be visited by 2.1 million people (5.1 million visits). Among them, 85% are the citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan and 15% are foreigners. Contracts with international tour operators Skyway International Travels, STIC TravelGroup and CITS have been concluded.
Construction of the Exhibition complex started 24 April 2014 and according to the schedule Office of the organizer will be ready for operation in this December.
According to the conception, the National Pavilion will be located in the foundation of object “Sphere”; today 60% of construction works on the frame have been completed. Active work on construction of international and thematic pavilions is being conducted. Area of best practices has also been provided for.
BIE regularly monitors the progress of the project, and according to BIE regulations EXPO hosting country reports on the status of ongoing work twice a year.
