OSRAM launch of the new high- CRI Osram Ostar Medical ” tunable white ” LED

The new Osram Ostar Medical launched on the market marks the OSRAM Opto Semiconductors successfully introduced the first adjustable temperature white LED components whose color rendering index (CRI) is 95 on November 19, 2013, which is ideal source for medical applications. For example, the precise control of chromaticity coordinates and the highly natural color is very critical in the operating room.

The new Osram Ostar Medical is composed of four different colors of LED chips that are warm white , super white, green and amber. Thus, according to the specific needs of customers , when the overall color rendering index is 95 , the LED emitting white color is setted at 3,700 K to 5,000 K color temperature range. Precise control of the chromaticity coordinates combines with the excellent color rendering index, which is particularly important in the medical illumination field. For red spectrum (Ra9) being optimized, the color index is still 95 or so, so red color is extraordinarily vivid, which is the ideal source of the lighting systems in operating room.

The footprint of Osram Ostar Medical is only 5.9 x 4.8 mm, the height of shell is 1.2 mm, the design is pretty compact. In fact, its height is only about a quarter of that of common elements . its compact design due to a flat coated coverslips with anti-reflective coating , instead of ordinary lenses the other LED is usually using.

Wolfgang Schnabel who is the roduct marketing leader of the German headquarters of OSRAM Opto Semiconductors explains : “The compact lamps is very common in modern medical lighting field , the height of new Osram Ostar Medical is low, which is ideal source for medical applications.
