NBA 2K21 demo will release on 24th August 2020

Only a few short weeks remain before NBA 2K21 makes its way onto current-gen consoles, yet so far 2K Games hasn’t really shown much of it beyond a few gameplay teases earlier this month. Fortunately, fans won’t have long to wait to get a better taste, as 2K has announced that a demo for the game will be coming very soon.

As per this week’s announcement from 2K and developer Visual Concepts, said demo will be released for the PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One on August 24. That’s a little over a week before the game launches for those platforms (plus PC, Stadia, and mobile devices), so that should give players plenty of time to get an idea of what’s new this year.

The new 2K Demo will be available to download and play for free on PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, although it’s unclear if a next-gen version will eventually launch. Luckily, that isn’t something current-gen gamers have to worry about, with a message from the 2K development team revealing: “Well, it has been a rollercoaster year on many fronts, and we know it hasn’t been easy for everyone being cooped up at home with most everything in your life going virtual... NBA 2K21 is currently scheduled to release on September 4th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Google Stadia. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions are also announced, though neither of them has a definitive release date as of yet.

NBA 2K21 publisher Take-Two Interactive recently had to defend its decision to charge $10/£10 more for the game on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. As Tom reported at the time, Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick said the price hike was designed to "reflect the quality of the experience" and that it was "an extremely modest price change given that prices haven't changed for a very long time".
