KazNU and ITMO: expanding the horizons of opportunities
The development of forms of international cooperation of higher educational institutions seems to be today an important aspect in the development of educational services. International collaboration greatly enriches the activities of the University, expands the sphere of interest and practical results in science, teaching work, training, facilitate the familiarization of the staff to world culture.
One of the key areas of foreign inter-University cooperation is the development and implementation of joint educational programs aimed at providing students and graduates with training opportunities in the near and far foreign universities and receiving two diplomas – the diploma of al-Farabi Kazakh national University and the diploma of foreign partner University. Since 2009 the University has been implementing educational master's program with issuance of double diplomas in a number of relevant and popular graduate majors. With the aim of implementing joint master programs al-Farabi Kazakh national University has signed agreements with major universities near and far abroad. It should be noted that the al-Farabi Kazakh national University successfully cooperates with more than 400 largest universities and foreign institutions of science and education from 25 countries, with which agreements on mutually beneficial cooperation.
International activities of the Department of thermal physics and technical physics of al-Farabi KazNU aimed at strengthening of reputation, internationalization of education and further integration into the world educational and scientific community. The Department of thermal physics and technical physics of physical-technical faculty of al-Farabi KazNU carries out international cooperation in the framework agreement with leading foreign universities, implements joint international educational programs, conducting joint research activities, organizing international seminars and conferences, conducts academic exchange of students, employees and professors and attracts visiting professors.
For the implementation of joint educational programs in accordance with the KazNU on the network form of realization of the master's double degree program between Saint-Petersburg National Research University of information technologies, mechanics and optics (Saint-Petersburg, Russian Federation) and al-Farabi Kazakh National University developed the core curriculum considering the educational trajectories of the Department of thermal physics and technical physics, al-Farabi KazNU and Department of thermal physics and theoretical foundations of the heat of refrigeration ITMO. In 2016, the first graduation of undergraduates enrolled in the program double-diploma education. A state examination in the specialty and protection of master's theses held in the online mode, the thesis was provided in both universities according to the requirements of the al-Farabi KazNU and ITMO.
In continuation of cooperation, in January 2016 was developed and approved the joint curriculum on the specialty "Standardization and certification" and "Quality Management" with the Department of financial management and auditing ITMO, in August of this year, students are enrolled in 1 course of a master degree. When curriculum development was taken into account the requirements and directions of the educational programs of both universities.
In 2016, a joint educational program "Information technologies in thermal physics" successfully defended master thesis and received dual diplomas of the international sample 16 masters, in 2017 - 20 masters. Currently, the Department is given 10 master degree students of 2nd year and 8 master degree students of 1 year. Over 30 students received the opportunity to make a research internship in the field of "Thermal processes and technologies" within the framework of short-term academic mobility in the University.
22 students of the specialty "Heat Power engineering" and "Technical physics" of al-Farabi KazNU, exchanged and studied for a semester, got the necessary skills and raised the level of knowledge on the subject "Thermal physics" (ITMO), thereby increasing the quality of research carried out, transformations in the academic environment, studied the culture and traditions of neighboring States.
Currently, the curriculum for the 2017-2018 academic year, specialty "Standardization, certification and Metrology (on branches)", written by two leading universities, at the faculty of technology management and innovation autumn semester enrolled 13 students, in spring semester will be planning to be trained 7 students.
In addition, a joint educational program of al-Farabi KazNU and ITMO "Audit and certification of quality" in 2016, was adopted on 3 master degree students, 2017 - 5 master degree students.
Teams of the departments of ITMO and al-Farabi KazNU are active in joint research work. Research departments is to investigate various trends in the theory and practice of management by thermal processes, to identify existing problems and develop solutions. Research managers in each direction are leading professors and associate professors of the departments of both universities.
The main directions of scientific activity are: conducting basic and applied research; organizing, conducting and participating in scientific conferences, organization of round tables on topical issues at various levels; preparation and publication of monographs, textbooks, manuals and scientific papers in international and national publications in journals with high impact factor; the establishment and implementation of the external relations Department with scientific institutions of the CIS and foreign countries.
A central role, research related to mathematical modeling of various physical processes, the study of phenomena of heat and mass transfer, development of energy - saving technologies, equipment for carrying out thermal and temperature studies.
During training, students master priority discipline and carry out research work in various fields, are courses of improvement of qualification in the industry. As a result of recognition of their successful work and good basic training they are awarded certificates on the basis of which is the credit transfer.
Cooperation in the framework of implementation of joint educational programs between universities and programs of academic mobility of students has become a reliable platform for the creation of a single Eurasian educational space, the further development of long-term and mutually beneficial international partnership universities.
