This really is nothing new, as last year the developers of RuneScape"partnered" with Twitch to allow Prime members early entry to a new purple skin color. The RuneScape community did not enjoy the concept back then, and they still don't enjoy it today. A subreddit devoted to OSRS has slammed the notion repeatedly over the past week. Many users are asserting that this brings the game one step closer to getting full blown microtransactions. Other people view this as"microtransactions by means of a third party," since players that have paid to be partners with another company are rewarded with exclusive products.
Happily Jagex, the developers of OSRS, have stated they won't add any new content into the game without polling the community. This can be accomplished with an in-game voting booth where members can cast their virtual ballots.
