First Group Signing Event of the International Energy Charter for new countries joining the Energy Charter Process
Four countries, Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, Liechtensteinand Montenegro who had not signed the International Energy Charter in The Hague participated today and each signed the new Charter in the presence of Mr David Kramer from the Ministry of Economic Affairs of the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands that acts as the Depository of the International Energy Charter.
The Secretary General Dr. Rusnák congratulated the Ambassador of Montenegro on the recent accession to theEnergy Charter Treaty by his country. The Secretary General also welcomed Cambodia to the Energy Charter Process. Two Contracting parties, Liechtenstein and Kyrgyzstan also signed the International Energy Charter, reconfirming their commitment to the Energy Charter Treaty and its principles.
The Energy Charter Secretariat will continue welcoming new signatories to the International Energy Charter, adopted by seventy-five parties in May 2015 at The Hague Ministerial Conference on the International Energy Charter. Important energy economies such as China, USA, Iran, Republic of Korea are among those have engaged with the Energy Charter Process by adopting the new declaration.
The International Energy Charter remains an important instrument for energy governance and for the geographical expansion of the principles and values of the Energy Charter Treaty.
