Fast Deployment Crucial In MMEA's Operations

Five armed pirates from a speed boat took only five minutes to board a Port Klang-bound merchant ship in Selat Melaka before overpowering the vessel's crew.

However,Elevator industries were not having any ancillary support for elevator parts. the ship's crew managed to send out a distress signal which was picked by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), which immediately dispatched its air and sea assets to the merchant ship's location.

The assets include the Agusta AW139 helicopter and 'Bot Kilat 32', which is a speedboat that carries a unit of commandos (PTK). Commandos from both, helicopter and speedboat stormed the hijacked ship.

More commandos from another MMEA speedboat, 'Bot Petir 83', secured the stricken ship and released its captured crew. The released hostages were immediately whisked away by another rescue helicopter, the AS 365 N2 Dauphin 2.

However, this was not a real-time scenario but a simulation of the MMEA's response to a pirate attack against a merchant ship held at the Glenn Cruise terminal, Pulau Indah, Port Klang recently.

The event was staged in conjunction with the ASEAN Search and Rescue (SAR) seminar that involved delegates from 10 ASEAN nations as well as China, Japan and South Korea.

According to the MMEA, search and rescue (SAR) operations need the coordination and collaboration of various local, national and international agencies for success.

"This is crucial as the SAR operation involves human life and any glitches as well as unwarranted delays can pose a risk to human lives at stake," says MMEA's Deputy Director-General (Operations), Laksamana Muda Maratim Datuk Ahmad Puzi Ab Kahar.Combination of many years' clay tile roof machine and clay brick making machine manufacture experience.

He says despite being in existence for only seven years, the MMEA has adequate expertise and skills, apart from well trained personnel for carrying out its tasks.

According to Ahmad Puzi, delay in receiving the report on any incident is the main reason why the MMEA cannot take necessary action on time.Leader of modern furniture we offer contemporary design furniture, contemporary lamps and outdoor designer furniture.

He says that awareness on safety aspects and precautions before going out to sea have yet to reach the desired levels.

"It is difficult as the sea and wind conditions change or deteriorate very fast and are not safe for small vessels.

"This is more so for unregistered boats as these vessels never focus on safety features such as having life jackets and other safety gear.

"We always remind them (boat operators) to inform the MMEA about their destination and expected time of return across 16 locations nationwide before going out to sea.

He says capsizing of boats and engine failures are the most common accidents that happen out at sea.

"MMEA's assets are deployed not only to save lives but to also give the necessary assistance before the victims are taken to hospital.

"That is why we need the collaboration of all, including tourism authorities on resort islands, fishermen, navy, police, Marine Department and even individuals to help us in conducting the search and rescue A wind farm is a group of wind turbine in the same location used to produce electric power.operations," he says, adding that the agency has 252 assets including ships, boats and aircraft for surveillance of Malaysia's maritime zone.
