Eyewitness of the Hurricane Katrina.

"The fact, that we have survived - a great success".

Parinov Pavel was one of the eyewitnesses of this tragedy. He told some details in blog about this hurricane.

“In 2005 I was in New Orleans, as a student went to earn extra money. Hurricane Katrina directly by myself. I survived the hurricane and a flood, also. I lived in a flooded city for about a week.

How events developed.
First there was a hurricane. What was happening on the street, in the enclosed space of the home caused panic. It was scary, especially when a huge tree fell on our house. Then the dam broke and the sea water (the lake ran into the ocean) began to flood the city. The water rose to 4 meters. Such a rapid flood caused us a primitive fear. Some of us even tried to cut through the roof. When the hurricane ended, the water level fell to 3 meters. The first day we stayed in place and did not move anywhere, waiting for us to be rescued. But then, realizing that we need to survive by ourselves, we began to act.

But then, realizing that we need to survive by ourselves, we began to act.
On the first day of living after hurricane there wasn't even food. But at the end of this dae we have found everything needed to survive: food, water, matches and so one.

Rescuers didn't really try to save us. Only on the 4th day, having swum up to us on a boat, they offered to leave, taking with them only one small backpack with the first necessary. We didn't want to stay without our things in a foreign country, where we didn't have anyone. We had madke a collective decision to stay in place, we tried to provide ourselves with everything necessary.
We ate products, which found in stores. We drank only bottled water, because already three days later the water around turned into a tropical malarial swamp, with the entire set of contagion that only can be. Well quench hunger "snickers" (5-6 was enough for a day to get full). I don't recommend eating dry food (such as chips), if there is another food. This is detrimental to health and thirst.

Another problem is the psychology of survival in a group with an autonomous existence. Over time, everyone is angry. Even in our friendly team sometimes were serious skirmishes. The reasons are banal - the food obtained by others, the bad mood, the discrepancy of views.

When we moved around the city, we communicated with other groups of people and in every way collected information about the ways of salvation. And when they realized that there was nothing to wait for, we put our things in big trunks, loaded them into inflatable beds and went to the "highway", where we were taken by rescuers. By helicopter we were taken to a military airfield and left to ourselves. It took some time to sleep on bare concrete, because there were no conditions for refugees. We slept on the heap of our clothes.

The fact that we survived in a foreign country under these conditions, didn't diefrom the hands of marauders, didn't fall ill with deadly diseases, didn't die from a hurricane and floods - I consider it a great success and not otherwise as a help from Above.

Some photos, which was made by Pavel.

Hurricane Katrina is one of the most destructive hurricanes in US history.
On 29 of the August, in 2005, he attacked the southern states of the USA.

It was just a part of Pavel’s memories. But after reading this, we may understand how terrible the situation was in that time. The hurricane began to form on August 23, in 2005 in the Bahamas area. On August 25, it passed over the coast of Florida near Miami, where it caused significant damage and death of 14 people. Then, having weakened to a tropical storm, the hurricane turned toward the Gulf of Mexico.

In the South-Eastern part of the gulf, the storm quickly recovered before the hurricane and began to move in the North-Western direction, then turned to North.
Moving towards the southeast coast of the American state of Louisiana, the hurricane intensified. He was given the fifth level of danger (highest) in the Suffer-Simpson Hurricane Scale.
The National Hurricane Tracking Center in Miami, Florida, reported that wind power at the epicenter of Katrina reaches 280 kilometers per hour and continues to grow.

Hurricane Katrina claimed the lives of 1,836 people and virtually completely destroyed New Orleans.
The disaster led to a major environmental disaster: in the south of the state of Louisiana, over 34 million liters of oil were spilled, more than 100 oil platforms were seriously damaged, and 52 were completely destroyed.

The damage from hurricane Katrina, according to the National Meteorological Service, amounted to 125 billion dollars. Approximately half of this amount - 60 billion - loss of insurance companies. To restore the affected areas, the US Congress allocated 110 billion dollars.

This is one of the most destructive and tragic natural phenomen not only in USA, but in the whole world.
