December 12 Saturday
I have submitted my app to 3 schools : Harvard, Yale, and Kellogg. I am also going to submit to Stanford in a month or so.
I started studying at university of Chicago. It is an incredible school!
In two weeks I have the next Gmat. My last score is 680, I need 750.
My goal is clear - get 45 on Verbal.
Today i studied at B&N manhattangmat SC. Results:
1. Meaning :
A) choose right words. f.e.: rising cost of oil led to crash of economy. versus. We raised the cost of oil and it led to the crush of the economy.
B) place the words in a right place: only veterans can vote on Thursday. versus. Veterans can vote only on Thursday.
C) match your words. (so they make sense) (this is the hardest actually)
2. Now lets take a look at Subject Verb Agreement.
A) And combines objects and transforms them into a plural object: Me and Mike are good friends.
B) Other modifiers such as - accompanied by, along with, together with Mary John is sad. In addition to rent the bill has to be paid. Including salt and pepper the package was full - are used with a singular verb.
C) Number is - singular, Number of - is plural! (that's interesting, never knew) A number of students are always prepared. The number of students is increased last year.
D) Neither/ Either is singular. Neither of my children is stupid. Neither Ada nor Mike is going to vacation.
E) Each/every singular (easy to say, hard to guess) : Every dog has paws (reasonable) Every dog and cat has paws (omg, harder) each of these shirts is pretty. Each of these girls is awesome. each of these building, which were built in 14th century, deserves a good tenant. Now a really funny one : They are each a great tennis player (this is bulshit, in my opinion)
F) Subject phrases and clauses are always singular : having good friends is always awesome! Being good citizens is not mandatory. Wherever they want to do is fine with me.
G) flip it! Sometimes you have to flip subject-verb to understand it : near those buildings sit a lonely house - WRONG! Near those buildings sitS a lonely house.
Last two advices : Skip the middleman and Skip the warm-up : near a golf, the houses are beautiful.
This is it for today. Now I will do my homework for stats.
