In the year 2011, there are many jobs in the medical field that a person may be interested in. So you starting looking for another list, the one with the different careers within the medical field, one career you will see on the list isPhysician Assistant.
The title sounds catching enough, but before you start looking for schools to enroll into, here are 5 tidbits of information you will want to ask yourself and find out about first.1. Are you a People Person?
As simple as the question may be, a Physician Assistant works with all types of people, sick, young, old, crazy co-workers, doctors, and nurses all day long. You have to ask yourself is that something you want to be around ALL DAY LONG?
Maybe you really don’t like dealing with people but on rare occasion. Do people in general just makes you irritated? ESAOTE Probe Being a Physician Assistant or a P.A. has direct contact with people this a major part of what they do.
So you answer yes, I am a people person, then read on.2. What do they do?
A Physician Assisstant works under the supervision of a doctor. PAs do all tasks involved in routine medical care, such as diagnosing illnesses and assisting in surgery. In most states they can write prescriptions as well.
I know what the next questions is…..3. What kind of income can I expect coming out of school?
According to Indeed.com the average national income for a P.A. is around $144,000. Sounds good right? Remember that is an average and does not mean that is what you will make coming out of school. The amount depends various factors. So take the time to research now, the time you take now can save you heart ache and some future frustrations later.4. Will you be able to get a job AFTER school?
Honestly, the best way to answer this question is to go and talk to actually physician assistants who are actually working in the field. They will tell you the truth, at least most of them will. If you want the nitty gritty of whether or not there are jobs, then talk to someone who has JUST finished school and may or may not have a job yet. They can tell you how long you will possibly search for a job and the current pay being offered, etc.
