5 last minute Hangout Fest fashion tips for Gulf Shores glamour girls

We went on a whirlwind Hangout fashion hunt through Target, Dillard's and Lotus Boutique to uncover classy, cool Hangout clothing options that could make you the best-dressed babe on the beach.

I've been to enough Hangouts to know that most of the ladies prefer to bounce around in bikinis all day. But even they have to put on some clothes when it gets dark and the Gulf Coast temps dip into chilliness.

You don't want to be shivering when the headliners take the stage under the Hangout moon. Sure, you could always just make your boyfriend give you his shirt, but wouldn't you rather make your own festival fashion statement?

Here are some tips:

Be a bag girl: The Hangout organizers don't want a bunch of huge bags swinging around and supposedly fanny packs are in style, but I just can't accept that. There are times when a gal needs a big bag. And Hangout is one of those times. Unless you are lucky enough to be staying within the vicinity and can drop things off in your room and make wardrobe changes there as needed, you need a reasonably big bag to haul your sunscreen, towel and other necessities. We found some lovely beach-friendly bags at Target and Lotus Boutique that are just waiting to be filled.

Forget the flower crowns: Oy, I HATE wannabe Woodstock flower crowns. There is an infestation of the cliched accessory at Hangout and I just want to rip them off of everyone's heads. Please ditch the bloomin' flower crowns and wear an actual hat. It will protect you from the sun and set you apart from the hordes of stereotypical hippie chicks.

Go under-cover: I know it's Hangout. But that doesn't mean you have to let it all hang out. There is a bounty of beautiful cover-ups at Bel Air Mall just waiting to elegantly conceal your swimwear or give a sexy peek. At Dillard's we found tons of adorable and colorful patterned bathing suits with matching cover-ups including an irresistible flamingo-print Kate Spade combo. There are also gorgeous, classy cover-ups with sequins and beading from Antonio Melani that will make you a glam beach goddess. Target and Lotus also have some cool, casual options.

Be an American woman : Patriotic red, white and blue-wear is always very popular at Hangout. You can go all-American without looking cheesy or like you're trying too hard. We found a terrific and tasteful American flag tank at Lotus. Pair it with not-too-short denim cut-offs and you're good to go, American girl!

Go maxi glam: Want to do Hangout looking like a lady of leisure at a resort on the French Riviera? A long, lightweight effortlessly glamorous maxi dress or maxi dress cover-up can lend you that luxurious look. One of the most fabulous maxi cover-ups we found was a gauzy, horizontally striped Gianni Bini number with a silver metallic accent in front. Slip it on over your suit, add some metallic sandals oversize sunglasses and a floppy straw hat, and voila, you're the Jackie O. of Hangout!
