**Hello everybody! I’m very glad to be here =) It is a very nice idea to create such an on-line stylistics class. Thanks our teacher Miss Gafiatulina for that! =) Hope it will be interesting to have our own blogs. “Stylistics” is not a new discipline for our group – FL -302(sh.), but I think we will get a lot of extra knowledge and practice. Hope we will get only excellent marks and will be on good terms with our new teacher =) For those who forgot or don’t know I made a note about “stylistics” as a science.**

Stylistics is one of the most interesting and ancient sciences. The concept about styles has arisen since a person understood that the identical set of linguistic means wasn't always pertinent in this or that situation. Since this period it has became necessary for a person to know in what cases and how correctly it should to use these or those means of language. A person always aspired to systematize everything, because it is easier to find something necessary in the system than in the chaos. Attempts to systematize «the use of special language» and cases of its use mark the beginning of a science - stylistics.

What is “style”? It is a set of linguistic means inherent in the certain sphere of communication. Stylistics of English language studies regularities of the use and a combination of the language forms. English stylistics is closely connected with other science –lexicology, because this science studies a word and everything, which is connected with it. When we define a style, it is necessary to know what means of language are inherent in one or another style.

Stylistics is inseparably linked with history. Style as one of the subjects, which English stylistics studies, arose owing to these or those historical events. For example, newspaper style arose with appearance of the first periodicals. The first "newspaper" was issued approximately in the 59th year BC in Rome and it was entitled "Acta Diurna" (Daily events), which were distributed to the town by order of Julius Caesar. Using of short-oral forms started at the beginning of the XIX century. It generally was caused by the language democratization. Origin of scientific style was caused by the scientific and technical progress.

Knowledge of the bases of English stylistics is a necessary condition of the speech standards. A literary norm also belongs to the sphere which English stylistics studies. It is necessary for each person to know how correctly to use words and also shades of their meanings. Therefore, English stylistics is necessary not only for people who have devoted to study linguistics, but also in many other fields of person activity.
