When contemplating what to get people for birthdays, it usually boils down to the same question…what is their favorite food?
Personally, my favorite gift to give is something I baked. I know it sounds like a cheap-skate out of actually buying a present, but I love it because it’s guaranteed to be a gift made with nothin but L-O-V-E. This recipe is absolutely no exception.
I made these lemon clouds with my lemon-loving roommate in mind. Many a time I have found her standing in the kitchen, in all hours of the day and night, eating lemon slices with a sprinkling of sugar. Thus my inspiration for lemon cream cupcakes with a sour/sweet lemon buttercream.
The cake portion of this cupcake is near perfection. Light yet rich and bakes up with a perfectly flat-ish top on which to pile up lots of sugary lemony buttercream. This frosting recipe would be a great base to add whatever flavors. It is so basic and simple – kind of like a little black dress, which will probably fit a little bit snugger after eating some of these.
