“Exchange is a thing you don’t understand unless you’ve been through it”

I am very humbled and overwhelmingly proud to be KazGUU University student. It was my pride and pleasure to be assigned to Seoul National University as an exchange student for the Spring 2014 semester.

At School of Law, Seoul National University, I studied legal subjects such as International Law and Intellectual Property Law.
Exchange is a thing you do not understand unless you’ve been through it. Because you meet new people, you gain new knowledge. An experience away from home can be challenging but when you have your fellow countrymen encouraging and supporting at times of confronting with another culture is undoubtedly amazing. The Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Republic of Korea organized an event for all the Kazakh people living in Korea. We celebrated “Nauryz” in April and we had a chance to invite all of our foreign friends to try Kazakh food and enjoy the atmosphere of Kazakhstan in Seoul.

As an exchange student, I did my best to take active participation both in and outside the classroom. I had a chance to participate in the International Conference on the Legal Profession which was held on April 10, 2014. The Conference covered issues about the legal careers in Korea, Japan and the United States. The landscape of the legal profession in the whole world is rapidly changing and after all, the legal profession in all countries plays a critical role in strengthening our civil society. On May 15, 2014 The Graduate School of International Studies held a distinguished lecture of the Director-General of the World Trade Organization – Roberto Azevedo. He talked about the trade negotiations and how the globalized world is in need of skillful negotiators.

It was a great journey to a great country – Korea. I would like to thank the Rector of KAZGUU University – Narikbayev Talgat Maksutovich for the given opportunity for the youth of Kazakhstan. I am also grateful to the Department of International Cooperation and to all the staff that assisted throughout my preparation.
At KazGUU University students can do much more than command a subject. Students can make good choices, set goals, do an exchange, collaborate with others and implement ideas. KazGUU education is outstanding. A life-changing exploration. A journey that leads to the person you want to be.
