Manchester United to revolutionise official kit supplier approach when Nike contract expires

Manchester United consider copying American National football League to offer three types of shirts to supporters depending on price and linking up with fashion brands and retailers
Manchester United could have more than one official kit supplier once their deal with Nike runs out next year.
The Premier League club are considering a revolutionary new approach and are talking to retailers and fashion brands as well as the usual kit suppliers.
United are examining how deals are structured in the American National 2014 football League – and one suggestion has been to offer three types of shirts to supporters depending on price.
The club could sell ‘match jerseys’ – more expensive – as worn by the players in addition to the standard replica shirt. They might also market a cheaper version of the shirt which would still be an official kit and which would be sold more widely in supermarkets, for example.
United are also aware that they need to beef up the retail side of their business – the club have one shop whereas Liverpool has half a dozen which are all profitable – because Nike own the distribution rights and this could change under any new deal.
