Hello everybody!
I want to write about Metonymy which means a figure of speech in which a thing or concept is called not by its own name but rather by the name of something associated in meaning with that thing or concept.
For instance, "Hollywood" is used as a metonym for the U.S. film industry because of the fame and cultural identity of Hollywood,as district of the city of Los Angeles, California, as the historical center of film studios and film stars.
Romeo and Juliet,one of William Shakespeare's famous plays has a famous example of metonymy when Esculutus tells about the tragic death of Romo and Juliet as "For never was a story of more woe, than this of Juliet and her Romeo".
And one more example: He is a man of the cloth (means that the cloth represents a devout man with deep religious beliefs.
