Dear felt artists, designers, and enthusiasts!
The Central Asian Crafts Support Association’s Resource Centre in Kyrgyzstan (CACSARC-kg) invite you to discover the secrets of Kyrgyzstan's Felts through an artistic dialogue and exchange during the Fifth International Felt Symposium to be held in summer 2012 in Kyrgyzstan.
The First (2001), Second (2003), Third (2005) and Fourth (2007) International Felt Symposiums in Kyrgyzstan were a great success. The Fifth International Felt Symposium promises to be an extraordinary cross-cultural experience. As symposium participants, you will discover the secrets of Kyrgyz felt traditions and will have the opportunity to exchange yours in return.
The itinerary will be full of opportunities for creative expression, sightseeing, cultural exchanges, camaraderie, and entertainment. You will travel by coach bus from the capital city Bishkek to Naryn region and the marvelous Issyk-Kul Lake to discover the ancestral home of the Kyrgyz felt making tradition. You will enjoy famous Kyrgyz hospitality by living and working with local artisans in the picturesque villages. They will share with you the Kyrgyz ancient felt making techniques, you will see yurt - traditional felt home of Kyrgyz people. Together, you will let your imaginations create new and exciting works.
You will visit the International Yurt Camp at the Issyk-Kul shore, Petroglyph sites, and Central Asian Crafts Fair organized within the International Festival of Intercultural Dialogue "OIMO-2012" at the Issyk-Kul area. During the Festival you will have a chance to attend master classes by the leading artisans of Central Asia and share your experience. You will be offered traditional meals and music; you will get to know Kyrgyz culture and history, and will have plenty of time to shop various craft markets.
At the end of the Symposium with its fascinating events you will have a return trip to Bishkek, where you will have a final shopping tour in Bishkek to purchase any remaining souvenirs.
The Fifth International Felt Symposium in Kyrgyzstan promises to be an exciting, inspiring, educational, and fun eleven days not to be missed. We hope you can join us! You can register now - just fill in the attached registration form and either fax or email it back to CACSARC-kg. We will confirm your registration and direct you in payment procedures via bank transfer.
Cost of participation in the Fifth International Felt Symposium is 730 Euro.
The price includes:
- Transportation to and from Manas International Airport
- Transportation by coach bus for the entire symposium tour
- Three meals a day
- Accommodation during the tour not including accommodation in Bishkek*.
- All day-trips and excursions
- Cultural program
- Workshops, including raw materials
- English language interpreter
The price does not include airfare from your country to and from Bishkek,accommodation in Bishkek and cost of a Kyrgyzstan visa. Citizens of the United States, the CIS countries, many European and Asia Pacific countries can purchase Kyrgyz visa upon arrival at Manas Airport in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
* We will arrange your accommodation in Bishkek. You can choose to stay in Bishkek in Western-style hotel or in a private flat. For your accommodation in Bishkek you will pay directly to the hotel or a flat owner.
